A portal is simply a threshold: a place where the conditions on one side differ from the conditions on the other. The Portal of Light is a wellness art installation built from three things placed deliberately: organized light, crystalline structure, and the visitor’s own attention.
By day it is sculpture: white fabric between the trees, gold geometric frames, and crystal clusters seated inside them. After dark, a path of colored light leads toward a ring of green laser light framing an illuminated lattice, and beams cross overhead through the haze. The Portal of Light has been shown at Convergence Wellness Campout, and it is the heart of our workshop, Creating a Portal of Light!
Build your own threshold
The threshold is something every visitor can carry home. A portal at home needs three ordinary things: a boundary, a window of time that cannot be interrupted; an anchor, something ordered to rest your attention on, such as a crystal, a candle, or the breath; and an intention, a decision to be present rather than productive.
A lamp lights a room. A campfire makes a place. We build campfires.
